Although nothing has been formally confirmed as of yet, Khamzat Chimaev next fight has been connected to a number of rumour matches.

However, is it possible to predict with any degree of accuracy where and when “Borz” will return based on recent developments?
An alleged fight between Chimaev and former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is said to be in the works, and it’s expected to happen at UFC 294 on October 21 in Abu Dhabi.

An interview ‘Borz’ recently gave to the Swedish publication Expressen gave this rumor more credibility. Chimaev reportedly said the following in quotes that translated.

“We train as usual here in Stockholm. We were in Dubai for training camp but came back now. Then, a month before the match, we will go to Abu Dhabi. But otherwise we train as usual here in Stockholm. We are ready for the match. It could be Usman, 90%. But he’s talking about two kilos, he doesn’t want to gain two kilos. Dana White talks about 82 kilos [181lbs]. We’ll see. There was no other match, it’s just him.”

Despite competing for the majority of his career at 170 pounds, the notion that Chimaev would want to fight at a catchweight or even at 185 pounds seems to be gaining ground as well.

So, Khamzat Chimaev next fight can be any of this two weight classes.

Jared Cannonier was asked about facing ‘Borz’ after his recent victory over No.3-ranked middleweight Marvin Vettori. He implied that he would be open to the fight, but only if it involved a title shot.

When No.11-ranked Brendan Allen was questioned about why he had been told not to call out Cannonier after his recent victory over Bruno Silva, he added that he would be open to fighting Chimaev.

In spite of his declaration that “I fear no man,” it appears more likely that Khamzat Chimaev next fight will be against Cannonier.

Therefore, it would be reasonable to assume that fans will get to see Khamzat Chimaev in action on October 21 in Abu Dhabi based on the current information. Another educated guess would be that, depending on his choice of weight class, he’ll face either Usman or Cannonier.

Khamzat Chimaev next fight: “Borz” to actually compete in Abu Dhabi and Paris?

Though it seems unlikely, Khamzat Chimaev would be the fighter most capable of pulling it off.

On July 16, 2020, ‘Borz’ made his infamously short-notice octagon debut and defeated John Phillips. Then, astonishingly, he went back into action after only 10 days, stopping Rhys McKee with punches to set a new record for the most victories in a row in the modern era of the UFC.

After a long absence, the fighter recently posted a video of a workout on his official YouTube channel. The moment when well-known Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic paid Chimaev a visit at his gym was the highlight of the video.
